 Available Education Options 
EXPLORE EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS 

Most Colleges and Universities offer their students a variety of educational programs and services that you as a student should take advantage of. These programs involve those that suit transfer students who come for college credits in a two year college to later transfer to a four-year College or University.

Other students may come to college to develop a specific job skill, or to improve their ability ability to speak and write the English Language, to continue the process of a lifelong learning or to get help in deciding their future.

Below are just a summary of the many opportunities available to you as a prospective student.

TRANSFER EDUCATION 

Students can come to a two-year College to earn credits that transfer to a four-year College or University. Many different programs are available to prepare you for work at the junior level after you transfer. Individual tailored programs lead to the associate in Arts degree (AA), the associates in science (AS), the associates in engineering science degree (AES) or the associates in fine art degree (AFA).

The courses taken at a two-year College are those normally taken during the first two years of the baccalaureate degree. Requirements can vary from one University to another, each program must be planned with a counselor or advisor. Catalogs from various Colleges and Universities are available. REQUEST A CATALOG NOW!

Students can complete a degree required at a two-year College and be in a favorable position to transfer to the senior College or Universities of their choice. Most Universities and Senior Colleges award junior standing to students who have earned a transfer degree.  Follow link for specific degrees and programs available, or refer to you College or University catalog you requested.

 

FOREIGN STUDIES 

Some Colleges and Universities are members of consortium dor International studies and programs. Study abroad programs can take enrolled students to places like England, Austria, or costa Rica for full semester programs offering a comrehensive mix of study and culture/social activities. For example students might spend a summer session in the spanish immersion program in Costa Rica or a full fall or spring semester on a campus in a foreign country. For more information like these, students are urged to contact the associate deans for counselling and advising. Interested students should inquire and apply early (at least six months in advance of program offerings)

CAREER EDUCATION 

Many students in Colleges and Universities are working to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare for a job in a career area. Some students take only a few career courses to reinforce and improve skills they already posses. Others enroll in a two-year college program leading to an associate in applied science degree (AAS) or enter a shorter sequence leading to a certificate.

Many Career students are high school graduates, or have completed a high school equivalence program (GED). Other are re-educating themselves to keep up with the changes in the workplace.

Trained and skilled individuals are needed to meet increasingly exacting job qualifications. In the next 10 years, 50 percent of all job opportunities will require education beyond High School but less than a four-year degree.

Career education programs prepare students to step directly into this fast-moving age of technology change.

 
BASIC SKILL EDUCATION 

Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education (ABE) gives adults who did not graduate from high school an opportunity to enhance their basic skills in the areas of vocabulary, reading, writing and mathematics. An individualized self-paced format is used, and in most cases there is no charge for this program.

 

 
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 

An Internship puts a student into the professional work world. Students in select disciplines earn credit hours towards their degree programs by working in a business or organization related to their academic field of interest. In several areas of study, most Colleges and Universities include an internship as an additional credit course. It's an academic opportunity to expand students' horizons into the career environment they are studying. After admission to a college we encourage students to learn more about this program through their College or University associate dean for the appropriate instructional division or the career service center. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE 

The English as a second language (ELS) program offers non-native adults, 16 years of age or older, the opportunity to learn the English language while also learning the American culture. Students develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills necessary for success in the workplace, community and for further course work. Grammar, writing and conversation classes are also available throughout the year. Morning and evening classes are also available at most Colleges.

FAST TRACK

The Fast-Track program is an accelerated scheduling option that enables students to earn the associate in a science (AS) with acceleration in business or complete the general education and additional college requirements for each specific degree. Students pursuing the Fast Track option can earn a degree in ONE year. Many students may choose to mix and match Fast Track courses with other courses because of the flexibility and various entry points this scheduling provides.
